ARTEMeS - a brief overview

System
ARTEMeS has been designed principally to provide access to displays of environmental measurements made at remote sites,
using Internet or corporate networks. It offers a number of advantages over other systems:
Connection to a network can be provided by a very small embedded microprocessor that has no user interface.
It cannot be used to access other Internet sites, download software or data and cannot propogate viruses.
It is now possible to have a single mechanism to access and acquire data from diverse remote measurement systems.
All that is required is a digital data output from the instrumentation, and a network connection.
Different data types (single scalar values, vector pairs, locations, raw binary, images &c) are handled with equal ease,
while respecting the mathematical and technical details of each.
Data are always displayed together with information such as location, units and parameter type, and cannot be taken
out of context.
Access to data from different projects or locations is restricted to individual users or groups of users having usernames
and passwords.
With no IT equipment on the client's network except for an embedded microprocessor at each instrument, ARTEMeS may be used
in applications with limited network infrastructure and at low cost.
Web pages showing data displays may be hosted either by Alphecca Systems' server or a client's own server.
All displays allow additional meta data about each parameter to be obtained, while more complex displays such as time series
graphs allow values of individual and related measurements to be read directly. Other displays such as maps and current profiles
may be rotated to alter the users viewpoint, or animated to show time series of complex data types as a movie-sequence.
Data entered using a web form may be acquired as though made automatically. This allows measurements from non-instrumented
sites to be incorporated and displayed using the same interactive displays as data from automatic systems.
Users do not need special rights to access ARTEMeS displays once the Java Runtime Environment has been installed. Additional
or upgraded displays do not have to be installed on client machines.
